In the modern digital age, students cannot seem to separate from their mobile phones. Although technology can be beneficial for education too much use can create damaging effects. Children of CBSE schools in greater noida are experiencing decreased concentration, sleep problems and reduced academic performance because of unmonitored screen time. It is important to comprehend the detriment of these activities in order to raise awareness to develop healthier habits and holistic development.
Distraction and Poor Academic Performance
Continuous distractions are one of the most typical problems caused by mobile phones. Student's views are drawn away when they are alerted to notifications, social media accounts and gaming apps. This affects not only their focus and attentiveness during the lesson, but also hinders their memory and participation in class, and their academic grades suffer because of it over time.
Impact on Mental Health and Sleep Patterns
Looking at a mobile phone for prolonged periods of time exposes students to social comparison, possible cyberbullying or harassment and online stress which can both lead to anxiety and low self-esteem. Students are also exposed to increased screen time in the evening which makes their sleep cycles less effective, ultimately making them tired and intentionally less attentive in class. Poor sleep quality also leads to weaker problem solving skills, motivation and willingness to learn.
Physical Health Concerns
Using a mobile phone continuously can cause eye strain, headaches, and posture issues. The blue light from screens is damaging to vision and can disrupt circadian rhythm which makes it more difficult for students to keep healthy routines. A lack of youth outdoor activities due to screen overload/ too much screen time negatively affects physical fitness as well.
Decline in Social and Communication Skills
Students who depend on virtual interaction may find it sometimes difficult to communicate in person. This reliance over time can have a negative impact on developing relationships, empathy and collaboration all of which underpin successes in school as well as life.
